Jazzing up July

Taipei Swing is concluding July with a bang!

It started this past Saturday evening when dancers turned out at 228 Peace Park for live jazz at Taipei's Jazz Festival.  While the music was a little underwhelming, a few songs proved danceable.  Way to go to Kim, Melody, Mindy, Derrick and JC for dancing before the crowds!

Now for upcoming events....

This Tuesday, 7.29, will be my last Tuesday class for the summer before I head back to the States in August.  So come out to NTUST, room IB-510, as usual, to stock up on moves you can practice while I'll be away.
7pm - Beginner
8pm - Intermediate
Go to www.ntust.edu.tw for more information on exact location.

Then, this Wednesday, 7.30, is our next Swing Jam at Franz & Friends.  Come out and enjoy a classy evening of dancing and live music.  The house band comes on about 8pm and plays until about 10.30pm.  For location information, go to www.franzandfriends.com.tw.

RSVP is required, since space is limited.  Reply to me at maria.kelley@yahoo.com to let me know if you can make it.

We're back at Hips on Thursday, 7.31, for another evening of social swing.  Introductory lesson starts at 8pm.  It's a great opportunity for newcomers to get an idea of the dance, so feel free to bring friends who haven't yet made it out to Tuesdays or Sundays.

And don't forget, there's open dancing to DJ JC from 9pm on, so even if you're not a total beginner, you can still come out and dance the night away!

Hips is located at the intersection of DunHua S. Rd, and HePing E. Rd, just down the street from the Shangri-La Hotel.

That's all the happenings to round out our jazz-filled July.

However, we've got a special treat to help us kick off our August.  Local band, David Chen & The Muddy Basin Ramblers, are playing live at Cosmo on Saturday, August 2.  Check out their website, www.muddybasin.com for sound bites.  This band is very energetic and dynamic - not to be missed!
